recruiting

The Toledo Fire & Rescue Department is actively looking for those willing to dedicate their lives to “Making a Difference, Every Day.”

Recruitment for the position of firefighter officially kicked off Tuesday March, 25, 2014.  A civil service examination is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, 2014.

Between now and then, Toledo Fire & Rescue Department recruiters will be out in the community sharing the highlights of this dynamic and rewarding career. It’s a chance for people who may be interested to meet the men and women who provide professional fire and emergency medical service to the citizens of Toledo.

All firefighter recruits are trained in both fire and emergency medical disciplines, and are certified E.M.T.s upon graduation.

That training becomes a foundation for city-provided training to further a firefighter’s E.M.S. education in becoming a paramedic. This program certifies a firefighter as an advanced life support provider, which allows them to deliver a higher level of care to those with life-threatening emergencies.

In addition to fires and medical calls, Toledo firefighters may choose to pursue specialized training in hazardous materials, water and dive rescue, confined space rescue, and rope rescue.

Official applications will be accepted beginning April 25, 2014 at 12:00 a.m. and end on May 9, 2014 at 11:59 p.m.
