In the early morning hours of May 8, 2016, when most of Toledo was at home fast asleep, your Toledo Firefighters were responded to the report of a fire at 610 Stickney at the Northgate Apartments around 2:39 a.m.
First arriving crews reported “nothing showing” on the exterior, but things soon changed upon further investigation and search of the sixth and seventh floors.
The crew from Engine 3 found smoke in the hallway and noticed smoke coming from an apartment on the sixth floor. They forced entry to the apartment and found heavy smoke conditions coming from a kitchen fire. During the attack and search of the apartment, they located a victim and immediately evacuated the victim for medical care by other fire crews on the scene. Additional units were dispatched to the scene to assist due to the challenges of fighting a fire in a high-rise building.
Kudos to all the crews that responded to this difficult incident, and especially to the firefighters from station 3.
