On Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at 1232 hours, Engine 24 responded to a commercial fire alarm at 3435 Chase Street. Engine 24 arrived on scene at fire station 12, 3435 Chase Street, to find water flowing from ceiling tiles in several areas of the newly constructed fire station.
Further investigation revealed that a section of suspended fire protection sprinkler piping had burst releasing the flow of water.
At this point the Fire Station 12 Dedication Ceremony scheduled for Friday, January 30, 2015 will be postponed until further notice.
Fire Station 12 was first opened in 1899 in the 2700 block of North Summit Street at Cleveland. Station 12 was open at that location until 1967, when it was closed and moved to new quarters located at 3530 Suder Avenue. It remained opened at 3530 Suder Avenue until 0700 hours on June 19, 1980, when it was permanently closed.
When it opens, the new station 12 at 3435 Chase Street, will increase the roster of fire stations serving the city of Toledo to nineteen.
