On Friday, February 22, Engine 7 was dispatched at 1259 hrs. to a reported “animal problem/dog bite” at 826 Elm Street. Information was transmitted on the MDT that the dog was still attacking the patient. Upon arrival at 1302 hrs., they found a pit bull-like dog mauling a female patient, and the police had not yet arrived on scene.
The crew armed themselves with pike poles and fought to get the dog to release the woman. Within just a few minutes they were able to drive away the dog and began treatment of the patient.
Life Squad 4 arrived on scene and the patient was on her way to the hospital by 1315 hrs.
***UPDATE***: The dog involved in this incident was determined to be a pit bull, and is in quarantine/custody of the Lucas County Dog Warden.
